Abstract

Hadith is the second important source of Shariah. It has a basic role to play in understanding the reality of shariah without it, the interpretation of the Qur’ān is impossible. Hadith consists of the sayings and actions and tacit approval of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him). From the era of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him), Sahabah (Companions of the Prophet), his followers and the scholars of Islamic World have always been giving importance to the narration, learning and the education of Ahadith literature. Moreover, Sūfiyah (The Islamic Mystics) have always been focusing on Ahadith in their teachings. They remained busy in the process of narrating and teaching the Ahadith to their followers and students. They rendered a reasonable literature consisted on the sayings of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) in every era. Shaikh Shahab-ul-Din Umar Suhrawardi is one of the great Islamic mystics, who rendered his sources on learning, narrating and teaching Ahadith. He was a great Muhaddith, Interpreter and a Faqih (an expert of Islamic law and Jurisprudence). While interpreting and explaining the important points of Islamic Shariah. He rendered a plethora of Ahadith as a basis of Islamic law and jurisprudence. Besides Shaikh Suhrawardi, many men and women of his family played an important role in narrating and learning the Ahadith literature. They were great Muhaddith of their times. In this article, sources of Shaikh as well as of his family have been traced.
