This study provides an analytical examination of the social principles outlined in Surah An-Nur, the 24th chapter of the Holy Quran. Revealed in Medina, this chapter addresses critical social, ethical, and legal issues facing the early Muslim community, particularly during the aftermath of the “Incident of Slander” (Hadith al-Afk). Surah An-Nur establishes comprehensive guidelines for individual conduct, family life, and societal organization, emphasizing morality, justice, and social cohesion. Key areas explored include marriage and marital relations, gender roles and rights, ethical behaviour, and the regulation of social interactions. The Surah prescribes both preventive and corrective measures for social misconduct, including adultery, false accusations, and violations of privacy, thus ensuring the protection of personal Honor and public trust. The study highlights the integration of legal norms with moral and spiritual education, demonstrating that Islamic law is not only punitive but also rehabilitative. By analysing relevant Quranic verses and prophetic traditions, the research underscores the balance between individual rights and communal responsibilities, illustrating a framework for a morally upright and organized society. Surah An-Nur’s teachings remain profoundly relevant for contemporary communities, offering guidance on ethical behaviour, social justice, and harmonious coexistence. This study aims to bridge classical Islamic scholarship with modern sociological understanding, presenting the Surah as a comprehensive blueprint for social ethics and governance.
