The Holy Quran is a divine source of guidance that encompasses all aspects of human existence, including health and nutrition. This research article presents an analytical study of Islamic texts and modern scientific perspectives concerning two significant fruits mentioned in the Quran: Figs (At-Tin) and Olives (Az-Zaytun). Through the lens of prominent classical and contemporary Urdu exegeses (Tafasir), such as Tafsir ibn Kathir, Ma'ariful Quran, and Tafhim-ul-Quran, the study explores why Allah SWT swore by these fruits in Surah At-Tin, highlighting their "divine and extraordinary importance."
The research delves into the scholarly opinions of Mufti Muhammad Shafi, Maulana Daryabadi, and Maulana Shabbir Ahmad Usmani, who characterized the Fig as a waste-free, easy-to-digest, and liver-strengthening fruit, and the Olive as a "Blessed Tree" (Shajarah Mubarakah) essential for cardiovascular health. Furthermore, the study aligns these traditional insights with modern scientific data and WHO guidelines, validating that the phytochemical composition of figs (fiber and minerals) and the oleic acid in olives are vital for preventing chronic diseases. The article concludes that the Quranic descriptions of these foods, provided centuries before modern nutritional science, serve as a living miracle and a call for further interdisciplinary research to benefit humanity's physical and spiritual well-being.
