Keywords:
Islamic Ecological Consciousness, Urdu Scholarly Discourse, Islamic Environmental Ethics, Concept of Stewardship and Trusteeship, Sustainable Development in Islamic ThoughtAbstract
This study explores the concept of ecological consciousness in Islam through a critical analysis of Urdu scholarly literature. In the wake of global environmental crises, a renewed reflection on the relationship between humanity, nature, and divine responsibility has become essential. Urdu intellectual heritage comprising Quranic interpretations, Hadith commentaries, fiqh writings, sermons, and modern Islamic thought offers a rich resource for understanding Islamic perspectives on ecology. The research critically examines how Urdu scholarship articulates key Islamic environmental principles such as respect for creation, moderation in resource use, stewardship (khilāfah), and moral responsibility (amānah). The aim is to assess the extent to which Islamic ecological ethics are embedded in Urdu academic discourse and to identify their potential contribution to contemporary debates on sustainability and environmental justice. The study proposes an integrated framework that bridges Islamic teachings, moral values, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), paving the way for a renewed Islamic ecological consciousness.
